Happy Friday readers,
I haven’t stopped running since I returned from California last week. I don’t know how I could possibly get so far behind at work and in every other aspect of my life by just going on vacation for a week. Maybe I can get a little breather this weekend and get caught up on the mundane things in my life.
I’m still struggling with my reading. Now it is because I’m so tired when I go to bed at night I fall asleep reading. I think I could finish a book if I could stay awake long enough to read some of it.
I’m in the middle of reading Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid and loving it. The reviews have been all over the place on this book, but it is the right book at the right time for me. I’m still trying to finish The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris, and I’m beginning to think that maybe this is not the right time for this book. I find it interesting but not interesting enough to stick with it.
I’ve read some really great articles this week, and I’ve linked to some of them below. I won’t bombard you with all of them, but there are a few that are worth taking a few minutes to read.
I have a love/hate relationship with Goodreads and especially the “to-read” shelf. I like reading about how others use this shelf as I use it for something different than was intended, I’m sure.
I love The Crown (I’m still working on season 3), I haven’t watched Bridgerton yet, but this has fascinated me. Now I know how they do it.
I think I’d love to work in a bookstore or a library; maybe after I retire, I’ll give it a try or at least volunteer at the local library.
Time flies, and it seems to fly faster as you get older. Maybe it’s not your imagination but a real reason why this happens.
Assigning a book’s genre is a marketing tool done by various professionals to suit their needs, and this article details many of the different perspectives.
I love the acknowledgments and authors’ notes in a book, as you can usually glean a deeper understanding of the book from these.
Summer is almost over, and school is starting soon in most areas which brings on its own kind of stress, maybe even relief depending on your situation. As we move out of summer vacation time into a new season, take some time for yourself to read and relax.
Tell me in the comments what you’ve been reading over the summer. After all, a TBR can never have too many books on it. Happy reading!
