Happy Friday!
I hope you’ve got some fun plans for the upcoming holiday weekend. A friend texted yesterday saying she would be in town over the long weekend visiting her family (she lives in California), so we’ve made plans to get together, and I can’t wait. I’ve got some reading in my future for the weekend, along with working on next week’s newsletter and doing some website updates.
Here are a few links to ease you into your weekend:
I loved the first movie, and I can’t wait to see the sequel. I wish these ladies were in my book club.
I’m a “completist” when it comes to several authors, and J. Ryan Stradal is one of them. I enjoyed reading this article about his latest book.
Some of these seem so obvious, but maybe not for everyone. Here is a hilarious list of things NOT to put into a Little Free Library.
Keep this list handy for great bookish quotes.
Fans of Dorthea Benton Frank were sad when she passed away in 2019. Her daughter Victoria heads to Sullivan’s Island with her first novel, My Magnolia Summer, and I can’t wait to read it. Check out this Charleston City Paper article to learn more about her and her book baby.
Does it seem like the same words have been used repeatedly in all the book blurbs lately? Here is a BookRiot article that had me laughing out loud.
The behind-the-scenes of the publishing industry have fascinated me for several years now. Here is a Crime Reads look at the life of a crime fiction editor.
Pamela Lamp has a bi-weekly podcast, a blog, and a weekly newsletter called “Who I Met Today.” In last week’s newsletter, she introduced her readers to the Maze Man of Sunset Beach. What a fascinating story.
The subject of “who gets to tell the story” has been up front in the book world for a couple of years now. R.F. Kuang, the author of Babel and Yellowface, talks to The Guardian about it and says that’s the wrong question to be asking.
Here is the first trailer for the Apple TV+ adaptation of Lessons in Chemistry.
What a unique way to travel across the country to celebrate an author’s latest book release. I missed it when she was in Dallas.
What are your fun plans for the long weekend? I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend, whatever you find yourself doing. Don’t forget to take a couple of beach reads to relax and pass the time with. Happy reading!
I’m hosting book club at my house in September. I think I’ll read “Lessons in Chemistry” ahead of the Apple TV series or movie. Thanks for putting this on your listicle.
My long weekend was last weekend … Victoria Day or May 2-4 as some call it. The weekend was spent planting flowers and got in some cycling.
