More Fun With Bookstagram Accounts
The wildly creative and visually pleasing world of Bookstagram awaits you
Hey readers,
I admire Bookstagrammers with unique accounts that highlight books in ways few others do. So many accounts show pretty pictures of books and make them appealing enough to make the reader want to buy them. I enjoy looking for and discovering unique Bookstagrammers that present books in a way that stops me in my tracks. I wish I had the time to maintain a Bookstagram account to go along with this newsletter, but sadly, it will not happen until I retire.
I highlighted several of my favorite accounts in a previous newsletter, Get To Know Some Bookstagrammers. Since then, I’ve discovered more wonderfully creative accounts that I’d love to share with you. Some of these are just visually masterfully creative and others, along with being visually creative, actually have some delightful book content to go along with the eye-catching pictures. I’m so excited to share these accounts with you.
Author and theater costume designer Jacqueline Firkins’ account is full of bookish goodness dressed up in costumes that look like book covers. Jacqueline’s account takes a book cover design and turns it into a gorgeous dress that she gives away to her IG audience. She began this project in 2020 to keep creating when the theaters shut down. She started designing dresses for author’s book releases to keep the creative juices flowing. Not only are her dresses gorgeous, but she also writes thoughtful, informative reviews of many books, most of which are YA or Rom-Com. Like I did with Pie Lady Books, I had difficulty choosing just one post to feature here. I can’t say enough good things about her account; I adore it.
American Booksellers Association
This bookstore-centric account is run by the not-for-profit trade association, ABA, the organization that helps independent bookstores grow, succeed and thrive in the world of Amazon and the national bookstores. The IG account features pictures of the inside and outside of its member bookstores. There are pictures of overflowing bookshelves, gorgeous displays of books, cute reading areas inside, and the uniqueness of the bookstores’ buildings. There is a small amount of information on each picture detailing the name and where the bookstore is located. I can see this IG account being a companion when I travel visiting bookstores after I retire.
Along with his friend Elizabeth Sagan who has her own very similar account, this wildly creative account stages books to make words, symbols, and pictures; maybe a little bit of photoshop is used, although I don’t know for sure. Both accounts use their imaginations to stage books in unique and creative ways to display their books and their wild imaginations.
I have been a fan of Jane Mount’s illustrations for several years now, and this is the account of the brand that produces bookish things and trinkets such as books, note cards, print and custom illustrations, mugs, pins, charms, and probably more stuff that I just haven’t discovered yet. Her artwork is instantly recognizable no matter what product it is affixed on or licensed to. It adorns gifts that most readers love to give and receive.
Similar to Pie Lady Books, Mariah of Thekneadtoread takes baking and food and books to a whole new level by including cakes, cupcakes, cookies, macaroons, flowers, and other food and non-food props to make gorgeous displays highlighting the books. The food props are so ingenious and stunning, and the colors and designs match the books to carry the book theme throughout the entire flat lay. Most of her posts have a central theme in the non-food props that she uses. Mariah tells about what she baked in each post and then gives a short review and some likes and dislikes about the book she read. She is so incredibly creative; it was hard to choose just one post, but I finally did.
Shaley uses books to create art by creating scenes, furniture made from books, designs based on seasons and holidays, and most are set against the backdrop of a bed but made to look like she is upright, and all the books are freestanding. Photoshop may or may not be a part of her process; I can’t tell. She is so creative in the poses she comes up with and the detail she includes in each post; that is why they look so authentic. She features many posts related to holidays along with seasonal posts about summer, bike riding, palm trees, and just having fun. If you scroll far enough back and work your way forward, you can see how her design skills have grown over time to some pretty elaborately staged productions that must take hours to put together and photograph. She does write some book reviews with her thoughts, but several of the pictures have a short caption. Off to choose just one post to feature, so hard to do again.
I hope you’ve enjoyed all the beautiful and creative Bookstagram accounts above. It was so much fun to spend time perusing through each account, looking at all the beautiful pictures, reading through some of the posts, and ultimately, choosing just one post each to feature here.
I hope you have a great week, get lost down a few rabbit holes with these accounts, and as always, happy reading!
Thanks for the recommendations! I like @bookcooklook as well. Food plus books is my jam!
Another great post. Still 11 years in the rearview mirror of FB and its other properties. Maybe Bookstagram might do it but not yet...I may have to ask others to take a look for me...hmmm
