I don't know if you are referring to there being no limit to the number of library cards a person can have or if I got the limits incorrect on one of the library cards that I referenced. If the former, I agree, one can never have too many library cards. lol
I live in a small suburban city and next to much bigger cities. Our library is small and has agreements with the larger cities around us. I'm grateful for that because my library rarely has the books I want to read. My library is great about ordering books from other libraries for me and even purchasing new releases based on their popularity. But I must admit I visit the other two bigger libraries the most.
I read about it a couple of years ago and slowly added all three library cards to my arsenal. My favorite is the Brooklyn Public Library; it rarely doesn't have the book I'm looking for.
Thank you so much for this information. We live in a van (no real permanent address) and have a podcast that requires research. Buying all of those research materials for the e-reader can get out-of-hand. This is a perfect solution!!
I had missed this post previously and read it today. Your writing style has great clarity and I learn something each time I read. Our local library is cooperatively aligned with the seven counties in the metro area. The new year brings with it inspiration to have a reading goal as you described. The county inter-library system transferred holds from other libraries and I am in the middle of a fiction sci-fi short story book as a result. Your Newsletter has "poked me" to take advantage of the services so thanks. We are fortunate in my area as the seven counties are reciprocal although I only have cards for my county and the two large metro counties. I occasionally use the WorldCat system for oddball books and unusual reequests. I have been able to get books from libraries through that cooperative network. I bet that lots of library systems grant access to WorldCat to their users and it can help you find most anything. Probably not eBooks though :)
One more comment which people might appreciate. I use the ID card upload to my phone so I don't have to carry the physical cards. I am sure such a service is also available on the iPhone as the competing systems seem to match each others features. It is great for storing library cards, loyalty cards, etcetera in your phone and you don't hav to carry them all around. Just don't lose your phone :)
I wish my local library had reciprocal arrangements with other cities/counties around me for e-books. I'm glad what I wrote "poked you" to check out and take advantage of some of the library services. I know I was amazed at some of the things that my library provides.
We are fortunate. Only worthwhile if you take advantage though.Your topic encouraged me to check policies. The limitations here are 15 items on Libby & 15 on hold, same for Overdrive, Hoopla 5 items per month, and unlimited access to MN authors and publishers to support them. I should probably read more and start doing more eBooks!
The limit does not exist.

Who knew you could join out-of-state libraries!

I'm so glad it was helpful. I love having the extra hold capacity that having multiple library card affords me.
