Hi readers,
It’s Friday! The weekend is almost here to do with what you want. Hopefully, that will include a little time for reading. For me, it means working on Saturdays during tax season, so I’m not as excited about the weekend as usual. Knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel does make it a little easier; I’m just ready to get to August and start my retirement.
It’s been a good week for discovering bookish and other goodness that I think you might like to know more about, so here we go with the links:
I enjoyed reading this interview with the author of the book that took 2022 by storm.
I had no idea there were this many bookish destinations in New England. It sounds like I need to plan a trip to check it out soon after I retire.
I was so surprised to see my city’s library in this Book Riot article. The grand opening for Frisco’s new library is tomorrow, and I can’t wait. This huge repurposed building contains the new library and joins a small live theater venue, a national video game museum, the Sci-tech Discovery center, and other fun places that have been there for a few years.
Libraries need all the love they can get, and in this NY Times article (gift link), lots of love and some great pictures show the value of libraries in our communities.
I interrupt this bookish goodness for a little foodish goodness. Chef Alex Prud’homme provides a lovely look inside the White House and tells how food is more than just a meal in the White House.
More foodish goodness is coming your way in the form of “which restaurant of fifteen different chain restaurants offers the best bread.” I know I have a favorite; do you agree with the writer’s ranking?
If you aren’t a bowler or don’t care about bowling, just pass this one by. I grew up bowling; I was a serious competitor and bowled in scratch leagues most of my adult life until about twenty years ago. I quit bowling about the same time bowling alleys began transitioning into “entertainment” centers. This article explains my feelings and why I’ll never be a serious bowler again.
If you enjoy reading Hollywood memoirs, Fodor’s Travel has a list of what to read after reading I’m Glad My Mother Died.
I veered a little off the bookish path this week in a few links, but I just couldn’t help myself. The best part of my weekend email reading is catching up on some of my favorite newsletters filled with links galore. Sometimes I discover something in a newsletter that I probably wouldn’t have found on my own, and I’m thankful that someone thought to share it in their own newsletter.
Have a wonderful weekend, and have fun doing whatever your weekend holds for you. Happy reading!
You made my day with that link to New England bookish destinations. My next trip home will include a few of these stops. I wonder why I never paid attention when I lived there?
So grateful for your entertaining links, Gayla, particularly the excerpt from Alex Prud’homme’s Dinner With the President, which I now really want to read.
