Hey everyone,
What a week this last week has been; the crazies come out the last couple of weeks before a tax deadline. It’s like they wake up one morning and realize that their taxes are due. This is after receiving no less than two emails and at least one phone call from me reminding them about this since mid-September. I guarantee that I will NOT miss the tax deadlines when I no longer have to deal with them, just six more after next Friday.
This week was a slow week for random interesting links, so you just get me, a tired me that surprisingly has finished five ARC’s in the last few weeks. I’ll tell you all about them when it gets closer to the publication dates, but I will tell you this now; I enjoyed all five of them, but they were all by authors that I knew I would enjoy, so I kind of stacked the deck in my favor.
I’m late getting this out today because I didn’t take Friday off as I have been recently. I do want to put some bookish goodness in your inbox today, so it’s “newsletter sharing day.” I’ve found some engaging Substack newsletters that are bookish, food, or travel-related to share with you. I think those three types of newsletters go well together. I can think of nothing more fun than food and travel with a bit of reading on the side, how about you?
Here are six of my favorite newsletters; enjoy!
What to Read If - Elizabeth is the creator of this weekly newsletter that gives three book recommendations a week. She teases with just enough details to make you want to rush to your library or indie bookstore so you can start reading right away. She has had interviews with authors, literary agents, professional narrators, and podcasters. She occasionally highlights other bookish newsletters in case you need more to read.
Can We Read? - I’ve mentioned Sarah before; she has the most delightful newsletter that features books for children. Not only does she highlight books for kids, but she also gives lots of tips on inspiring the life-long passion of the love of reading in your children. She reviews books, talks to authors, provides links to other newsletters and bookish goodies that she thinks her readers would enjoy.
Brent & Michael are Going Places - I discovered this travel-focused newsletter a few weeks back and have enjoyed reading every issue since then. According to them, “they are writers and a longtime couple who decided in 2017 to sell their house and become digital nomads.” They travel the world and write about those travels, people they meet, sightseeing they’ve done and give lots of travel tips to help all of us learn to travel well.
The Biblioracle Recommends - Longtime Chicago Tribune book columnist John Warner writes about books and book adjacent topics and offers plenty of book recommendations and links in his weekly newsletter. I enjoy his writing style and the depth of some of his posts. Occasionally, you get a glimpse into who he is by the other things he will sometimes write about. He will also give you book recommendations; just click on the link in his newsletter. Give it a try; you might find a new-to-you book to read.
America Eats - A foodie newsletter by Pat Willard, who is the author of four books. In her America Eats newsletter, she takes you to places in the USA on a food journey and talks with others to learn their remarkable stories about food traditions in their neighborhoods. She writes of hometown goodness, and you feel that you have been there with her when she tells you about the Berry Harvest and how to make the yummiest biscuit treats with those berries.
Walk it Off - Issac Fitzgerald writes of his newly discovered love of walking by sharing his adventures in walks throughout New York City. He walks, talks, photographs, and writes about people, places, and things you never knew existed in this great city. He takes beautiful pictures and talks to some fascinating people in his travels. If you have a fondness for NY City, you will love this newsletter.
I hope that one of these newsletters piques your interest; the link takes you to the archive page of each of them. Click through, subscribe to the newsletter of your choice, and be sure to catch up on past newsletters as there is some excellent writing going on.
Have a great weekend, have fun doing whatever brings you joy, and make sure to take some time to read. Happy reading!
The Walk it Off newsletter looks great! Thanks for sharing these. I am really enjoying newsletters lately, more than scrolling social media.
I'm glad that you found one that interests you. I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting newsletters, like I need to subscribe to more newsletters. :)
