Enjoyed this! I recently became a citizen of the UK (I was born in the US, and have lived in the UK for 14 years now). We had a similar test I had to study and pass. There were lots of questions about their much longer history as well as cultural traditions, popular culture and other topics. I asked my UK friends some of the sample quiz questions and they were challenged too!
I think we (citizens) take it for granted what it takes to become a citizen of another country. Yes, some of the questions I didn't know the answer to either.
Ha! I actually have an answer to your question. I have recently became a US Citizen (June this year), and when I first did the test to get a baseline of how knowledgeable I was about US history I scored 72/100 - Two weeks later i was 100/100 and aced my test!
So glad you're feeling better! Have you read Blank by Zibby Owens? The main character is a writer who is also obsessed with open houses and has a secret Instagram account that goes viral. It's a fun theme that ran through the book!
Even though I don't have any desire to write a book, I follow several authors that write about writing as a "craft." As a reader and a champion of authors, I enjoy reading about what author's writing lives look like. Thanks for reading, Julie!
So many cool links to check out, as usual. Thanks, Gayla! Glad you’re well again. Good for you for registering voters. It’s something I ought to do. I’m afraid of what I won’t know among those naturalization questions. We should all be required to pass that test—it would undoubtedly help our democracy.
I agree wholeheartedly on passing the test. It's a joy for me to see the "new" citizens exit the ceremony, take pics with their friends and families, and take the time to register to vote. It's fulfilling to see someone WANT to exercise one of their new rights as US citizens. Thanks for reading, Ruth!
If you didn’t get to Sumner, WA on your PNW visit, make sure you stop by next time. And look me up! 😀
No, we didn't make it to Sumner, but if I'm ever in your area, I'll let you know. :) Thanks for reading!
You are always a great read, Gayla. Thank you !
Thanks for reading, Jill!
I also love Rebecca Makkai's Zillow newsletters!
Her newsletters are the best and some of the houses she finds--wow!

I have not read Blank, but after your description, I think I need to. It sounds like it would be a quick and fun read. Thanks for reading, Stephanie!
Thank you for sharing Fictionland. Not so much depressing as just a fact of author life.

What could be more delightful than a short stack of books on a long cruise ...
Thanks for reading, Linda!

I think that would be very fulfilling to work with newly minted citizens. I might look into that. Thanks for the inspiration, Gayla!🤗
