Happy Friday!
What a week this has been; I’m so glad the weekend is in front of me, waiting to be enjoyed. I hope your upcoming weekend is looking good for you too. I am so close to finishing three books; maybe I’ll do that this weekend.
I’ll be moving to the next town over in early September, so I’ve started going through all the “stuff” I’ve accumulated over the last twelve years so I can get rid of what I don’t need or use and only pack what I want to take with me. What a pain in the “you know what” this is, but it has to be done. The Little Free Libraries are getting a stash of some really great books that I’ve won in giveaways or otherwise accumulated. Enough about me; let’s get to the links.
This has nothing to do with books and reading but a lot to do with goodness and humanity. What a gift this couple and their business have provided for their community. Maybe it needs a Little Free Library as a finishing touch to make it bookish!
I’m still on the “Are You There God…” books and movie discussion, and I enjoyed this Good Morning America interview with two of the movie's cast.
If your kids are readers or you know of kids that love to read, this BookRiot article will be a big hit for younger readers with twelve summer reading programs to provide fun with their reading.
I enjoy reading about how things went from ideas to real life. I enjoy seeing pictures of what things used to look like years ago. This BookRiot article combines both and lists thirteen books about Walt Disney and Disney Parks.
Another “feel good” story to make you smile. This teacher “started a student project forty years ago that is still changing lives today.”
Bestseller lists have always seemed like magical mysteries, and each well-known list has different criteria for how a book makes it onto its list. This LitHub article clears up a little of the puzzle, but I can’t say that I know much more about it now that I’ve read it.
I’m getting antsy about retiring and traveling; one of my favorite ways to travel is a “road trip.” I enjoy seeing parts of the country I’ve never been to while I catch up on my podcast listening. I stumbled across this article and can’t wait to go on a road trip and check a few of these out.
One of my favorite times of the year is when various bloggers, newsletter and Patreon creators, and others release their “summer reading guides.” There are so many available to choose from, but I’m going to tell you about my two favorites:
Coming up next week on Thursday, May 18th, is my favorite bookish day of the year—the release of the Modern Mrs. Darcy Summer Reading Guide for 2023. I’ve been a fan of Anne’s platform for many years, and I’m a proud member and supporter of the MMD Book Club and the What Should I Read Next Patreon community. She’s doing things differently this year, and you can read about it and watch her explain in this blog post. Head to the site through this link to read more about it and sign up. We have so much fun in book club and Patreon, and we’d love to have you join us for the live unboxing of all the titles in this year’s guide.
, creator of the is releasing her "paperback summer reading guide" on May 24th. A couple of things I'll enjoy about her recommendations are that she focuses on ten summer reading moods, and the books are "backlist" books making for less wait time (maybe no wait time) at the library and potentially less expensive to purchase than the newer books. She is going all out this year and creating a forty-page PDF with descriptions of each book and readalikes. She’ll have mini podcast episodes throughout the summer that you can access through her newsletter as a paid subscriber. You can read about the 2023 guide through this link. While on the website, check out some of her other newsletter issues and subscribe for more bookish goodness.Do you like to peruse “summer reading guides?” Do you have favorites you must have every year? I’d love to know what those are so I can check them out. What kinds of books do you like to read in the summer? You can tell me all about it in the comments below.
Have a wonderful weekend full of everything that brings you joy, including books. Happy reading!
Great links, as usual. There are so many great roadside attractions in the U.S. I want to go to the singing road!
Another road trip is in our future this summer, so I’m pleased to have the Smithsonian’s list of worthwhile roadside attractions. Thanks as always for your post!
