I couldn't figure out why I was all of a sudden getting "like" notifications on a Happy Friday Links newsletter. Oops! I meant to schedule it for this Friday, not today, but I'm so used to scheduling newsletters for Tuesday that I made a mistake. :( Oh well, live and learn.
Great links and I love the idea of an Article Club!
Also, the Good Trade piece about cultivating/maintaining friendships without having to spend money was interesting. So much changes as we age without even realizing it, sometimes.
I don't want to start a book club, but there are a couple of close to me libraries that meet during the day and I'm excited to start going to them once summer is over. And I don't trust blurbs either, but I do take them into consideration if it's in my normal genre by an author I trust.
I always love your links, Gayla! And brava on being so close to retirement! My “retirement” was never official--just a series of jobs that gave way to a freelance career that gave way to doing more and more what pleased me, most of which didn’t pay. (It did and does help to be married to a workaholic whose love of work has helped fund my dilettantism!). My path led me to experiments in cooking, blogging, teaching, learning, politicking, reading, traveling and even mosaicking. And I’m still on the hunt for more challenges. I look at it less as “retiring from” than “transitioning to.” And what you decide to transition to is the exciting part!
Thanks Ruth, I'm happy you enjoy the links. I like "transitioning to." Someone at work told me today that she didn't know what she'd do if she didn't work. I looked at her and said that I've got plenty of things to do and I'm sure I'll find more and if I get bored, maybe I'll work part time in a bookstore. Sounds like fun to me!
I love the idea of working part time in a bookstore! Before the pandemic I volunteered in a local Friends of the Library bookstore and really loved it! Of course I was the store’s best
I had to really think hard about what an ideal weekend would be. My ideal weekend would include a boyfriend and a new garden of raised beds neither of which I have. Or a chef and a handyman. And a maid. And money. And maybe a dinner party at my house with friends (that’s where the chef and maid come in). But I think my ideal weekend would be not so much about what I would do but how I would feel. I’d love a weekend where I have a ton of energy, am excited about something, and feel beautiful and loved -- truly loved. 💕
I agree with you that an ideal weekend would be about how one would feel, but during the enjoyment of the weekend and in the memories after it was over. Here hoping you get your boyfriend, garden, chef and handyman, and money - and don't forget the maid becuase you are going to have fabulous dinner parties in your future and the memories from those, even if you don't have everything else to go with it, will be wonderful. :)
Love the idea of book mobiles! And love cup of Jo. I don’t comment every week but I love reading your stuff and your lists!
Thanks Stephanie for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoy the links. And I too love Cup of Jo.

I enjoy clicking on your links to articles. This week I especially enjoying "Cup of Jo", "Article Club" and the Non-Profit article!
Retirement will be here before you know it. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Michele, I thought you might like the non-profit article :)
Wait...you mean it's not Friday?? :)

Egg on my face. :( Boy, I wish it was Friday lol
I like the idea of an Article Club also. It's intriguing, and would probably work with the right people.
I do NOT trust blurbs! 😂 in retirement you could start a book club!

customer! 🤣
I am definitely going to check out what opportunities are available at my library to volunteer. A few hours a week sounds like it would be fun.
So close! Hang in there!
Thanks!!
