December is normally a slow month for new books, but there are a few this month that I'm looking forward to reading and gifting that you might like to read too.
Thank you for these recommendations. Just yesterday I ordered a couple of Christmas/winter themed books that I look forward to reading. This time of year is perfect for picking up some new books. ❄️
Thanks for the recommendations, Gayla. I love historical fiction (especially is it isn't about WWII - been there done that) and also love good thrillers. Thanks to you, my reading list is growing!
Have fun with your 'friends of the library' volunteering. Such a fun and worthwhile endeavor!
A nice cross-section of books. I think I have guided a few friends to your Substack so hopefully some gift ideas make it through. For me, next year with a slightly different schedule I am planning to make it the year of William Kent Krueger. So many friends have raved about his series so it is time to give it a whirl. Enjoy you December -- pondering what to get others is better than getting gifts in my estimation. Enjoy.
I've read a few of his books and so far, they have all been excellent. I've listened to a few Zoom events with him. If you ever get a chance to see him in person, make sure you go. You won't regret it.
He does a fair number of appearances in the area and especially in the popular vacation areas near his home in Northern Minnesota. I will watch for him and make time. It is amazing that authors do Zoom events now!!! I just pencilled him into my schedule as he is going to be near our place on 02/24/24 at a place I love anyhow!
Thanks, Gayla! I was just looking for some books to read--actually to listen to as I'm just too busy multitasking these days to find time to curl up with a physical book or even peruse a virtual one. Several of these seem like good escape reads, like The Frozen River, though the audio version requires a 14-week wait on Libby. Oh well, there's always something else worth reading in the meantime! Happy Holidays!
I'm happy you found a few new books, but I'm sorry the wait is so long on Libby. I have library cards to several different libraries, so that cuts down on the wait. Thanks for reading, Ruth!

Enjoy your Christmas books!
Thanks for the mention! I appreciate it. Merry Christmas!
Happy to!
Great picks. The first two have particularly piqued my interest. Thank you Gayla!
Let me know what you think if you read them.

If you like listening to podcasts, What Should I Read Next has an episode with Ariel about her new book and other bookish goodness.
