I cannot say enough good things about True Biz -- unless something mindblowing comes along between now and December 31, it's going to be my best fiction book of the year.
My reading life has been a little rough lately -- I feel like I'm reading less, though that's probably not true. Maybe I mean I've been unsatisfied, which always frustrates me. And while most people have more time to read in summer, I am traveling a ton for work and am worried that the opposite will be true for me.
After your review, I can't wait to read True Biz. I hear you about reading less and being unsatisfied. I haven't read anything yet that has blown me away, so I think it's time to put True Biz on the top of my TBR. Thanks for giving me the nudge I needed.
I haven't been reading as much as I'd like to, Goodreads says I'm 6 books behind ! But, everything I have read this year has been excellent and I've been sticking to the non-fiction books I've started, even when they take me a lot longer. Happy Friday!
I'm so happy for you that everything you have read has been excellent. Thats a plus. I'm many books behind my goal on GR, maybe I can read more over the next couple of months. Happy Friday to you too.
I love a perfect balance between plot driven and character driven! Some character driven books drive me crazy with boredom! If I had to choose I think I prefer plot driven! But I want both! So greedy! And I think retirement will be an easy transition for you!
I agree on perfect balance. Do you have any that struck the perfect balance to recommend? And yes, I won't be having any problems with retirement. I'm going to have a problem making myself stay until 8-2023. lol
Yes….once that retirement words sneaks into your psyche it messes with you! I haven’t kept a list of those perfect balance books but they’re usually my 5 star reads and on my lifetime favs list! The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek comes immediately to mind! I should start a list for a future blog post!
I definitely lean toward a plot being critical. But that being said, I just read a plot driven novel that had the most cardboard characters and did not care for that at all.
It's funny, or maybe not, how go to tried and true authors, genre's etc. that you normally derive pleasure from, and occasionally you find a book that you didn't like at all, like you said about the cardboard characters above. Thankfully, for me that is usually the exception and not the rule.

I read BW and enjoyed it. I have the daughter book, but I haven't read it yet. Yes you should start a list for a blog post.
