I enjoyed the festival, I had fun sightseeing, and I learned that I need to pay attention to my GPS when traveling, but not for the reason one might think
wow, what a twist that you didn't get a ticket because when you first mentioned the speed check thing and said "more on that later" I was SURE that was going to happen! I love Savannah and Charleston and that whole area so much!
I'm actually surprised I didn't a couple of times before I realized what that meant. There seemed to be a lot of radar on the route, but I guess I wasn't the fastest one! lol I love both of those areas too. In a different life, I could live there.
Such a cool thing to do, Gayla! I enjoyed reading about your experiences in and en route to Savannah. Glad you didn’t get a speeding ticket!
The LA Times sponsors a huge book festival each year, but I never go as I’m not a fan of crowds. Perhaps I will this year. It’s next month. Here’s a link in case you or any of your readers are interested: https://events.latimes.com/festivalofbooks/
I got into Tuscaloosa around 3 p.m. and I stayed at one of the hotels/motels that is by the Cracker Barrel and the freeway, I can't remember the name of it. It wasn't anything special, just a place to sleep for the night. I drove around for about 45 minutes just looking at the area and also for a place to eat, and really didn't find anything that sounded interesting, and wound up at the Cracker Barrel because it was getting close to dinner time and it was Valentines Day and I didn't want to get caught in the middle of that at a restaurant. I left early the next morning, so I really didn't spend much time there at all. I enjoyed the drive through that area, it was green and pretty and the weather was nice.
I wish the festival would release the authors/schedule so I can make sure that I want to go. I need to start making plans but I want to make sure there are going to be authors there I want to see. lol
I would love to go there when it isn't really busy and see it. There were so many people you could hardly walk. Good for business but not so much for enjoying. lol
I love Savannah! I have a couple of friends who teach at SCAD and they brought me in as a guest lecturer. Such a great city..too bad it's in georgia. haha.

Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks for reading, Tara!
What a wonderful trip, driven by the love of books. Hurrah for you!
Thanks, Mary. I'll do most anything for books. lol
I love the idea of organizing trips around book festivals. This sounded wonderful.
There is so much of the USA that I haven't seen, I decided that road trips to book festivals just made perfect sense.

I would love to be in the area for both the festival of books and YA'll fest, the YA book festival. Maybe one of these days.
Yay. So fun -- I'm going to be in the same area when I go out for All the Summers and I'm so excited. So pretty down there!
I can't wait to see that area. I have a feeling that it's going to take several trips to see all I want to see.
Omg, I live in Tuscaloosa! Would love to know more about what you did and where you stayed, depending on how much time you were here for!

A majority of the good choices for meals are downtown if you ever happen to come back!
I'll keep that in mind on my next trip through town. Thanks!
I’m awed by your travels. We should start a caravan!
And you’re gonna love Newburyport!

I surely loved my visit to Savannah! It was wonderful to see your pictures and read about the journey!!
Awe, thanks! I love it there and in Charleston and can't wait until next year to go again.
E Shaver is one of my all time favorite book stores. What a great trip!!
