(And yes, you do get used to the cold if you live in a place that experiences extreme temperatures. Some of it is temperament, some of it attitude, some of it is just plain-old familiarity and not wanting to leave the place you're from, regardless of how difficult it can be sometimes. I will say this for southern Wisconsin, and for Duluth -- there are times in every season that are so beautiful and life-giving it can take your breath away. Subzero temps are worth it 😉)
Thanks for the Deborah Crombie recommendation. On the strength of the comparison with my beloved Three Pines series, I will check out her work. Hoping your good weather holds up and tax season doesn’t prove too onerous!
I just read and ADORED "How To Kill Your Family" by Bella Mackie. It was delightful, could have inhaled it in a single sitting had I not had jobs to be getting on with. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a beach or plane read.
I think it came out in the UK late last year; I picked up a paperback covered in 'Sunday Times bestseller' plaudits. Hopefully it should surface stateside soon, it was a riot to read and I'm still thinking about it a fortnight later.
Those darn book covers, lol. I think the cover trend that I haven't like recently is the "blobs" of color that have been prevelant on book covers. I guess that why I'm not a cover designer. lol
How unique and intriguing, I love it. I'm sure it makes sense once you read the book. It's covers like this one that draw me to the book and make me want to read it. I just put it on hold through Libby. I can't wait to read it and learn what the cover means. I'm so happy to have found someone that loves book covers as much as I do. :)
I don’t envy you your tax season. As a bookkeeper we didn’t prepare tax returns. However we did get those clients showing up at our place with a box of stuff 2 weeks before tax deadline thinking we could get the books completed for a year so they, in turn, could show up at their accountants offices a couple days before deadline to get their corporate tax return done. After so many years of dealing with this nicely that last couple years I just laughed at them. Probably not the nicest thing to do but definitely the most satisfying. You have a light at the end of the tunnel this year and it’s not that far off. You’ll make it. 😊
The dreaded box of papers that client's think we can make some sense of; I'm going to be so happy when those days are behind me. I understand completely the laughing, I've done that a few times myself. Sometimes I just can't help it.
Happy last tax season, Gayla! You can do it! 💪

Thanks for the encouragement Sarah, I appreciate it.
Just forwarded to my book club (only three of us - lol!) Just finishing up on The Sentence by Louise Erdrich and really enjoying it. Good characters!
Thanks Jan, that's so kind of you.
Tax season...Blah! Hang in there!
And thanks for some more interesting suggestions!
I agree, Blah! Unfortunately, I'll still have to do my own tax return every year, but that is the only one I will do. lol

Thanks Ruth, I hope the good weather holds up too. I'm not up for the cold and snow/ice.

I don't think I've heard of that book yet, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks for the great recommendations Gayla. I've added a few titles to my TBR, in particular The Writing Retreat and Time's Undoing.
I'm also a sucker for lovely book covers. I especially love to see what's trending in cover design.

Check out the cover of What’s left of me is yours by Stephanie Scott. I think it’s amazing.

Ditto!
Books to do nothing but read 🙂

I need to check out “The House of Eve”
